Forward-thinking youngsters are being encouraged to join a new youth panel designed to give them a voice when it comes to creating more things to do in Seaton Carew.
Seaton Carew Community and Sports Club (SCCSC), a charity incorporated organisation based at Hornby Park, is looking to develop its youth offering over the coming years.
There are already hundreds of children regularly engaging in some form of physical activity at the site on Elizabeth Way through its cricket, football and rugby sections.
But the focus is on providing more. SCCSC is in the process of applying for major funding from the Youth Investment Fund that, if successful, would support capital and revenue expenditure during 2023.
Monica Vaughan, the volunteer business development director at Hornby Park, said: “Our charitable objectives are to provide a range of activities from cradle to grave to promote physical and mental health well-being and there are limited facilities in Seaton.
“Whilst the cricket, football and rugby provide junior access to these sports we want to provide a wider range of activities for the youth of Seaton Carew.
“There are limited activities currently available for youth in the area and with the new extension we have planned we can provide a safe environment.”
The SCCSC youth panel is seeking youngsters aged 11-18 to be instrumental in developing the youth offering at Hornby Park.
It is an opportunity to work with experienced volunteers on an exciting project which potential employers/universities/colleges would be impressed to see on their CVs.
Monica added: “Initially we want the panel to identify what the youth of Seaton Carew are looking for; assess if and how this can be delivered, and put together a programme of activities that meet the needs of the community.
“Beyond that we want the panel to deliver an ongoing review of programmes to ensure the activities are accessible to all, identify new trends and update the youth programme.
“The youth of today are the future of tomorrow so it is important to listen to their ideas and aspirations.”
Anyone interested in joining the Seaton Carew youth panel should contact activ8@hornbypark.com ahead of a meeting on Monday, November 14 at 6.30pm at Hornby Park. Initial commitment will be a couple of hours per fortnight, reducing to a couple of hours per month.
