Seaton Carew Rugby Club was founded in 1921 and it has been one of the most prevalent clubs in the local area since its inception.
It was based in local schools until the 1970s when it was able to negotiate with the Seaton Carew Cricket Club to use their clubhouse on the ground now known as Hornby Park.
Seaton Carew RUFC is still one of the most popular clubs in the area.
The Club has affiliations with the RFU which is the national governing body for Rugby Union and Sport England, the overarching governing body of many sports across the UK.
Seaton Carew RUFC has been successfully competing in the Durham Northumberland leagues, amateur leagues setup by the RFU.
In 2011 there was a major investment in the shared clubhouse leading to the addition of changing facilities and more recently, investments have been made to improve the pitch surfaces and drainage.
Seaton Carew is fortunate to have one of the best rugby facilities in the region due to the large investment made to the pitch and the newly renovated Hornby Park which offers a comfortable social space for spectators, players and families.
Seaton Carew RUFC has a new inspirational captain in Benji Glaister-Smith, who leads by example on and off the field.
SCRUFC also has coaches Billy Lithgo and Cameron Lithgo working on the players to put their extensive rugby knowledge and experience to good use.
Some previously lapsed players have recently got their training kit back on and have rejoined, which is brilliant for us.
Over 17s Training is Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7pm - we’d love to hear from anyone thinking of playing rugby.
The Rugby Club itself is moving forward as more of the players express an interest in becoming involved in the management of the Club, bringing in new ideas and youthful enthusiasm. This is a very positive step forward and great for the future of the Club.
Later this year Seaton Carew RUFC reaches its centenary anniversary - roll on the celebrations.
Hornby Park is also the proud home of the Little SCRUFs - the junior section of the rugby club. From 10.30am on a Sunday all ages and abilities are invited down to try and develop their talent. Check the below contact details for further details.
